Advocacy & Communications Officer
Margaret Griffin is the advocacy and communications officer at North Tipperary Disability Support Services. Margaret took up this position in September 2024.
Responsibilities of the Advocacy and Communications Officer

Monitor relevant legislation, government initiatives, and social policy changes impacting disabled individuals, drafting submissions and briefing papers to advocate for systemic improvements.

Design and deliver public-facing advocacy campaigns to raise awareness, challenge societal barriers, and promote equal rights.

Build partnerships with policymakers, government departments, disability rights networks, and sector coalitions to advance shared reform agendas.

Develop and execute an overarching communications strategy that elevates the charity’s mission, values, and service offerings across traditional and digital channels.

Produce clear, engaging, and accessible content—including Plain English, Easy Read, screen-reader friendly formats, and captioned media—for reports, newsletters, website, and social platforms.

Act as a key contact for press, draft press releases, respond to media enquiries, and prepare spokespeople or self-advocates for interviews.

Facilitate opportunities for disabled people to lead campaigns, share personal experiences safely, and participate directly in public decision-making processes.

Ensure representation across all communications adheres to the social model of disability, upholding dignity, consent, and non-tokenistic involvement.

Assist fundraising, service delivery, and executive teams with tailored communication materials, annual reports, and donor appeals.

Measure and report on campaign reach, media engagement, website analytics, and policy outcomes to demonstrate organizational impact to funding bodies and trustees.

Service Manager
Denise Darcy is the Service Manager at North Tipperary Disability Support Services. Denise took up this position in September 2019.
Responsibilities of the Service Manager

Administer and manage the service in line with policies and procedures developed by the management committee, meeting the requirements of relevant funding organisations.

Manage and oversee the homecare service, including direct service provision and day-to-day supervision of homecare workers.

Identify training needs for all staff.
-
Report to and attend Board meetings, providing written reports.

Co-ordinate and lead weekly staff meetings.
-
Recruit staff in consultation with the Board of Management.

Supervise working rosters in conjunction with staff.
-
Ensure all Health and Safety requirements are met.
-
Conduct risk assessments for both employees and service users.
-
Provide inductions for new staff.
-
Engage in strategic planning for the future viability of the service in conjunction with the Board of Management.

Administrator
Ann Ryan has served as our Administrator since joining NTDSS in November 2001.
Responsibilities of the Administrator
-
Maintain day-to-day financial, accounting, administrative, and personnel services to meet all legislative requirements.

Report primarily to the Manager, taking responsibility for the preparation of all aspects of financial statements, payroll, and personnel administration.

Strive to ensure the company meets all legal and regulatory responsibilities and ensure the transparent, efficient, and effective use of all resources.

Clerical Officer
Teresa Murphy joined NTDSS as the Clerical Officer in January 2011.
Responsibilities of the Clerical Officer

Provide administrative support to the Manager and the Administrator.

Arrange holiday cover for all staff members.
-
Type letters, send emails, deal with enquiries, and assist with the day-to-day running of the office.
-
Report directly to the Manager.
